กว่ายี่สิบปีกับการคร่ำหวอดในวงการกราฟฟิตี้และสตรีทอาร์ต
เริ่มตั้งแต่ความชื่นชอบตั้งแต่สมัยเรียนไฮสคูลจนปัจจุบัน ในปี 2023 นี้ประสบการณ์และความเชี่ยวชาญที่สะสมและฝึกฝนจะถูกถ่ายทอดในรูปแบบนิทรรศการเดี่ยว WE COME IN PEACE หรือ เรามาด้วยสันติ นิทรรศการแสดงเดี่ยวครั้งที่สองในชีวิตของศิลปิน BIGDEL ซึ่งบอกเล่าเรื่องราวพิเศษที่เขาสนใจไม่ว่าเป็นมนุษย์ต่างดาว UFO เรื่องโลกคู่ขนาน หรือเรื่องทฤษฎีสมคบคิดต่างๆ รวมทั้งภาพยนตร์แนวนี้ เรื่องราวถูกตีความในแบบของศิลปินออกมาเป็นคาแรคเตอร์ต่าง ๆ ที่ไม่ซ้ำแบบกันโลดแล่นผลัดเปลี่ยนกันมาแสดงตัวในผลงานแต่ละชิ้น ด้วยท่าทางกวน ๆ แฝงอารมณ์ขัน คล้ายจะร่วมกันสื่อสารว่า “เรามาด้วยสันติ” แต่สันติของคาแรคเตอร์เหล่านั้นอาจดูย้อนแยงในที รวมถึงมีความตลกร้ายไปพร้อม ๆ กัน BIGDEL ตั้งใจสร้างผลงานให้ดูสนุก เข้าใจได้ไม่ยาก ไม่ต้องปีนบันไดดู และก็ไม่ได้จำกัดว่าต้องเป็นอะไรสักอย่าง แต่ดูแล้วรู้สึกอมยิ้มในใจ ส่วนองค์ประกอบและรายละเอียดต่าง ๆ ในผลงานนั้น ศิลปินได้แรงบันดาลใจมาจากไลฟ์สไตล์ที่ตนชื่นชอบในยุคปลาย 90 ไม่ว่าจะเป็นแฟชั่น หรือดีไซน์ของเครื่องอนาล็อค เช่น กล้องโพลารอยด์ เป็นต้น รวมถึงบทเพลง ภาพยนตร์ที่หลงใหลอีกด้วย ผลงานของ BIGDEL แสดงออกด้วยการผสมผสานสไตล์กราฟฟิตี้ที่เป็นรากฐานในตัวตนและรูปแบบสตรีทอาร์ตที่เป็นหัวใจหลักของเขา
ผลงานในนิทรรศการประกอบไปด้วยงานเทคนิคพ่นหรือเพ้นท์สีบนพลาสวูดไดคัทที่ดูมีมิติจากการซ้อนทับหลายเลเยอร์หลากวัสดุ และงานภาพพิมพ์ดิจิทัลซึ่งถ่ายทอดสตรีทอาร์ตสไตล์ในแบบของ BIGDEL เอาไว้อย่างเข้มข้น รวมถึงงานอินสตอลเลชั่นที่เป็นบ้านและรั้วสังกะสีที่นำเสนอไลฟ์สไตล์ของกราฟฟิตี้ ทำให้ภาพรวมของนิทรรศการได้สะท้อนตัวตนอีกพาร์ทหนึ่งของศิลปินที่ได้มุ่งมั่นทำมาตลอดกว่า 20 ปี

After more than 20 years in the street art and graffiti circles, with passion in this form of art since high school up until now, this year, BIGDEL gathers all his experiences and expertise, along with his life-long trained skill set, and puts into his second solo exhibition ‘WE COME IN PEACE’. In this exhibition, the artist tells the stories that he’s passionate about, such as UFO and aliens, parallel universe, as well as other conspiracy theories and movies related to the subjects. He interprets these ideas into newly created characters, displayed on each piece with fun and cheeky attitudes. The key point of designing each character is that they have to convey the theme ‘we come in peace’ well, yet contradict such theme with subtle mockery and satire. BIGDEL wants his works to be playful, easy to understand, not too far-fetched and not limited to one interpretation. He hopes the audience can enjoy them with a smile, visibly or not. The components and details in each art piece are inspired by a lifestyle and trends from the 90s, like fashion and analog devices such as polaroid cameras etc. He also received some inspirations from music he’d listened to and movies he’d watched. BIGDEL combines graffiti, which is his roots, with street art, which is the world he’s been dedicating to for a big part of his life.
This collection of art pieces consists of spraying or painting techniques on die-cut plaswood, which give extra layers and dimensions. It’s a collection of many materials as well, not only plaswood, but also digital prints that richly carry BIGDEL unique street art identity. He also presents his installation works in the forms of graffiti on a Thai-style thin alloy house and fence. The exhibition, therefore, portrays another part of the artist’s two-decade work life in many unseen angles.
“…งานชุดนี้ผมว่ามันเป็นการเติบโตขึ้นในตัวผม เป็นอีกสเต็ปหนึ่งที่มากกว่าการพ่น แต่ทุกวันนี้ก็ยังพ่นอยู่เพราะมันก็หล่อเลี้ยงจิตใจของเรา เราชอบงานพ่น แต่พอเป็นงานแสดงในแกลเลอรีผมก็รู้สึกว่างานพลาสวูดนี้มันก็ยังมีความสตรีทในตัวตนของมันอยู่ มันไม่มีรูปแบบตายตัว ตัดตรงโน้น โผล่ตรงนี้ เพิ่มชั้นนี้ ชั้นนี้มันลึกลงไป เราสนุกกับการทำ เหมือนเวลาออกไปพ่นกราฟฟิตี้ กำแพงนี้เรียบ กำแพงนี้ไม่เรียบ กำแพงนี้ขรุขระ กำแพงนี้ต้องกลิ้งสี กำแพงนี้ต้องขูดออก งานพลาสวูดนี้มันยังเป็นตัวตนของเรา แสดงเส้นทางชีวิตเรา น้องๆที่ตามงานผมที่พ่นด้วยกันข้างทาง เขาแค่เดินผ่าน เขาก็รู้ว่าเป็นงานเรา งานพี่ BIGDEL มันเป็นตัวตนของเราที่คนที่ชอบสามารถเก็บได้ด้วย
… ผมไม่สนุกที่จะสร้างคาแรคเตอร์ตัวเดียว ผมสนุกที่จะวาดไปเรื่อยๆ และผมรู้สึกว่าการที่ผมทำอย่างนี้แค่นี้ … แล้วคนขับผ่าน เฮ้ย นี่มันงานพี่ BIGDEL เปล่าวะ ผมว่ามันท้าทาย แต่มันยาก มันยากมากการที่เราจะทำลายเส้นให้คนจำลายเส้นเราได้ มันก็คือ 20 กว่าปีที่ผมทำมานี่แหละครับ เป็นสไตล์ เป็นลายเส้น เป็นสี การวาดเส้นหนา พอคนเห็นชิ้นนี้ ชิ้นนั้น ก็เออ มันน่าจะคนทำคนเดียวกันนะ …ผมทำงานเบสบนความสนุก เพราะถ้าผมไม่ได้ทำงานบนความสนุก ผมไม่พ่นกราฟฟิตี้แน่นอน ผมทำงานบนความท้าทาย ผมรู้สึกว่าเวย์นี้มันต้องไปได้ดิวะ ถ้าเราไม่ทำงานตามเมนสตรีมหรือสูตรสำเร็จ เรามีจุดยืน เรามีลายเส้นชัดเจน ถึงมันจะยาก แต่เราก็ต้องพัฒนา วาด วาด ออกไปเพนท์ ออกไปพ่น …”

“… I think this exhibition shows my growth in art. It shows ‘the next step’ that has more than spraying. I still do spray works because it fulfills me in a way, I really like it. But when it comes to gallery exhibitions, I think plaswood works are more suitable. It keeps the sense of ‘street,’ with fluidity and more room to grow and interpret, so well. I can cut this and add that, add extra layers, extra depth. I enjoy creating the works as much as doing outdoor graffiti. One wall maybe smooth, another isn’t. One wall maybe a little spiky. This wall may require a paint roller, another may require a scraper. Plaswood works are part of my identity. Admirers who have been followed me for a bit will know, just by passing a wall, that which ones are my works. Mine will always scream ‘BIGDEL’ and that collectors can collect this part of my identity.
“… I’m not satisfied with creating just one character. I’m having fun with creating new ones. I think creating new things on and on would give an effect like… when a driver drives by and says ‘this one is BIGEDEL’s’. That’s a challenge I want to experience. I know it’s hard, though. It’s hard to create a style that’s unique and make people notice your work. This is what I’ve been doing for the past 20 years, too, this challenge. I’ve created my own style, the lines, the colors, the thickness of the lines. I want people to recognize that it is me. I base my works on fun and me having fun. If it’s not for fun, then I wouldn’t be doing graffiti for sure. I thrive on challenges. ‘This should work,’ I often say to myself. I don’t want to ride the mainstream wave and certain fixed formulas. An artist has to have their own stance on things, with a ‘signature’ to be remembered. It’s hard, surely. We just have to keep on moving, and practicing, and painting, and spraying.”
